SHE LOOKED OKAY

For anyone carrying storms behind a steady smile — you are seen. This poem is for you.
She Looked Okay
She looked okay—
with her makeup on and her mouth curled at the corners.
She answered the phone.
She laughed at the joke.
She nodded at the questions.
But inside, her soul was a wildfire
burning through silent nights and almost-cries.
Nobody saw the shaking hands behind the hugs,
the screams tucked behind mascara,
the prayers whispered between stovetop stirs.
She was held together by hairpins, deadlines, and duty.
And every time someone said “You’re so strong,”
she wanted to ask—
Do you know what it cost me?
She looked okay.
But inside?
She was rising.

This poem lives inside my book Rage & Rise: The Goddess Spoke Back, a collection for every woman who’s ever broken quietly and healed loudly.
